Session 11
Weird Writer has gone over the nitty gritty, as always. On my end, this was a very interesting session because of how much it changed tone throughout, yet it didn't really feel like a whiplash.
It started off with me full of energy (I love Weasels sessions and was looking forward to this one) cracking jokes and having giant rats speaking like my bad impression of New York Italian-Americans; it then started shifting into "business as usual" as they looted a room full of ghouls, and then it started sliding into more bad vibes. Everyone got hurt in the pit trap, and after that things became more and more serious.
I cried a little bit at the end too, which was nice. It wasn't because Leofwin had died, really, but rather because of how I was imagining his pyre (which Eofor's player thoughtfully collected and described some mead, a nice urn, etc) and how his ashes were being raised to the sky to be mixed in with Athena, which he worshipped. It just struck a chord with me, but like I said at the end of the session: it's kinda like being sore from the gym. It hurts but it's the good kind of hurt, this sort of session is why I play RPGs in the first place, and the fact I finally got to that point in a spoken game (rather than a written one) is very meaningful to me.
Anyway, the Weasels dug hard to find a situation they couldn't weasel their way out; putting a Cleric (Which, under my rules, receives no fighting training) in close quarters with 2 Ghouls without much of a plan was, perhaps, not their finest strategic moment, as was relying on Burning Hands to kill off 4 ghouls (which would have been even less effective if we had been using AD&D as written). Not even the Luck of the Weasel could save them there, and it appears to have ran out, but we'll see if they can retrieve it.
There's just so much juice to where the Weasels will go now. Eofor, who's just 18, is now a proud homeowner and a fine warrior, will the loss of his cousin steel his heart? And what of Lykourga, who's set herself in the path of gianthood? How much more will Arden Vul change our characters? The next 2 sessions will be just Spuk and WW so who knows what kind of shenanigans they'll get into.
